Santa Catalina Island Company will open Mt. Ada, the former home of William Wrigley Jr., to the public again this year on Thursday, December 8th for a Holiday Open House to benefit the Catalina Island Foundation (CIF) and Avalon Rotary Club. The event will highlight the partnership between businesses and nonprofit organizations working to improve the quality of life on Santa Catalina Island. Also up for celebration will be the 100th anniversary of the Rotary International Foundation and the 80th anniversary of Avalon Rotary Club Foundation.

“All of us at Santa Catalina Island Company are thankful for the incredible support the Catalina Island Foundation and Avalon Rotary Club have given to our local community,” said Randy Herrel, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Santa Catalina Island Company. “It’s an honor and a pleasure to give something back by opening the doors of Mt. Ada for this special holiday celebration.”

Similar to last year, the Catalina Island Foundation will raise funds for the local civic groups by offering a limited number of raffle tickets for a chance at a one-night stay in one of the guestrooms at Mt. Ada. Raffle tickets for gift baskets donated by local businesses will be offered separately.

Upon arrival at Mt. Ada, attendees will receive a warm welcome followed by a docent-led tour of each of the six guest rooms. Attendees will then be invited to enjoy home baked cookies and wassail, sing carols, visit with friends and admire the beauty and ambiance of Mt. Ada.

“The Holiday Open House is a wonderful community event and we are happy to help keep this tradition going,” said CIF board member Mike Rivkin.

"We're thankful to have the opportunity to work with CIF on the Holiday Open House this year, and I think it's a great way to celebrate the milestones of our Club and Rotary International, as well as all the tremendous community support all three organizations provide," said Christy Lins, President of Avalon Rotary Club Foundation.

All proceeds from the Holiday Open House will be earmarked for local civic groups, including the Teen Center, Interact Leadership Club, The Pony Club, Santa Catalina Fund for Higher Education, CHOICES, Catalina Kid Ventures, Preschool Learning for Avalon Youth, Avalon Cheer Leaders and many others.

This year’s Holiday Open House will take place on Thursday, December 8th, 2016 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Transportation will be provided from the tour plaza to Mt. Ada for $1 each way.
