This is the time of year to be thankful for our families, friends, and where we live. The City of Avalon is showing their thank you to the community by organizing and providing the annual Holiday Food Program. This program gives families that might be less fortunate to have a Happy Holiday Dinner for Thanksgiving and or Christmas.

Our tuna trip was planned on short notice by sending out a text to see who had an interest in and the time to go. Within 24 hours we had a crew of six confirmed for a trip to the tuna grounds.

Catalina Island Women's Golf Club has been busy this Fall. The Big Break Avalon Golf Tournament and the Halloween Scramble were held in October followed by A Jewel of a Tournament in November.

Kick off the holiday season with a special performance by the children's choir of the McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts and a select group of Avalon students during the Catalina Island Museum's Holiday Season Celebration. Following the choral performance, attendees will enjoy a screening of the classic It's a Wonderful Life (1946) starring James Stewart and Donna Reed.

Once again, iconic Mt. Ada will open its doors to the public on Thursday, December 7th for the annual Holiday Open House that benefits the Catalina Island Foundation and Catalina Island Women’s Forum.

The Catalina Island Conservancy's Families in Nature program hosted its Second Annual Halloween in the Garden on Oct. 29, drawing larger crowds than last year and offering more spooky fun for trick-or-treaters of all ages.

Once again, October weekends kept us busy: Long Beach Yacht Club Race, Jazz Trax, a long weekend with the Dana West Yacht Club, Hyatt Mission Bay Marina trip.

We had a lull in the action around Catalina Island, but this last week things have picked up locally and off shore. We are starting to see squid at the island and macs swimming near shore. These critters are bait, they are at the base of the system, and without them the fishing will dry up.
