Celebrate Oktoberfest at the Catalina Island Museum. You are invited to First Fridays at the Museum on Friday, October 7th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for pretzels, prizes and prost! Once a month the museum offers evening hours for residents and visitors to enjoy its galleries, digital theater, outdoor plazas and Museum Store.

No need to travel to Germany, the October 7th event will offer a bit of Bavarian culture in the heart of Avalon. This family friendly event features homemade pretzels, games, free giveaways and – for the adults – German beer and microbrews. Live music by a German band will set the mood. In the true spirit of Oktoberfest, guests are encouraged to don their best dirndls and lederhosen.

All of the museum’s galleries will be open during the Oktoberfest celebration. In its final weeks, Bettie Page Uncovered: The Unknown Photographs of Bunny Yeager explores the unique relationship between America’s most famous pinup model and legendary photographer Bunny Yeager. It also reveals how these two women unknowingly set the tone for what would become the sexual revolution of the 1960s. The art gallery on the museum’s second level features an exhibition of plein air paintings. Not your average plein air exhibition, To the Wind that Will Blow Tomorrow shows a side of Avalon most visitors do not experience. This exhibition will be on view through November 6th.

A visit to the Museum Store offers exclusive Catalina Island related gift items, Bettie Page merchandise, books, beach towels, mini surfboards, Catalina tile, unique jewelry and much more.

Tickets for First Fridays at the Museum Oktoberfest are $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Each ticket includes a beer (or non-alcoholic beverage) and a pretzel. Tickets may be purchased online at CatalinaMuseum.org, at the museum’s visitor services desk, or at the door. Live music begins at 6:30 pm. Beer, soda, water and pretzels will be available for purchase.

The Catalina Island Museum offers the best in art and history exhibitions, music and dance performances, lectures by guest speakers from all over the world, and the finest in silent, documentary and international film. Open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, the new Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building is located in the heart of Avalon at 217 Metropole Avenue. For more information, the museum may be reached by phone at 310-510-2414 or at its website: CatalinaMuseum.org.
