Inaugural Film Screening in the Ackerman Family Amphitheater
Catalina Island Museum
Each month, First Fridays at the Museum offers evening hours for residents and visitors to enjoy its galleries and Museum Store. This month we celebrate film with our very first film screening in the Ackerman Family Amphitheater: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg.
In the film, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. This is the first installment of the Indiana Jones series. The New York Times called it "one of the most deliriously funny, ingenious, and stylish American adventure movies ever made."
In addition to the debut of our outdoor amphitheater, this First Fridays event offers one of the last opportunities to experience our current special exhibitions: Art Nouveau and Graphic Art: The PAN Publications, 1895-1900 and Bon Voyage! Posters from the Golden Age of Travel. Both of these exhibitions will close on March 5th in preparation for the installation of the Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum exhibition.
Food and drinks available for purchase: Wine, beer, soda, water and popcorn, plus hotdogs by Virgie's Snack Bar. No outside food or drinks allowed. Attendees are encouraged to dress warm and bring a blanket.
Doors open at 6:00 pm. The film begins at 6:15 pm.
