City of Avalon Recreation Department Update

Avalon Youth Basketball is continuing to go strong.  The players are beginning to gel as a team.  They are listening and learning from their coaches.  Coach Z has really ensured the success of the program his tireless hours are really making a difference.  The battles on the court have been exciting to watch as each player is getting better at their skills.  There are three games left in the season.

T-Ball, Sluggers and Squirts baseball season is upon us.  There will be a mandatory parent meeting and registration day on Tues. May 26th, at 5:30 at Joe Machado Ball Field.  These leagues are open for children age 4 to 5th grade.  We are in need of coaches and team parents please let us know how will be participating.  You can stop into the Recreation Dept. to get a registration form.

Joe Machado Ball Field is one of the semifinalists in the Kellog's Frosted Flakes Plant-a-Seed Grant.  Last month we asked everyone to vote for Joe Machado and it paid off we are now one of the 100 semifinalists.  Additionally PHASE I of the project is out to bid.  This phase of the project includes the concession/restroom building, the courtyard, fencing and lighting the bids will be awarded mid-June.

Day Camp and Swim Lessons just around the corner.  Sign-ups begin June 1st.  Stop into the Recreation Dept. to pick up applications.  Camp begins June 15th and Swim Lessons begin June 29th.
