CIMC Welcomes New CEO Jason Paret

Catalina Island Medical Center

The Avalon Medical Development Corporation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that a new Chief Executive Officer for Catalina Island Medical Center has been hired.  He is Jason Paret of Portland, Oregon.  He has an MBA from the University of Alaska Southeast and attended Oregon State University before getting a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of Montana.  Jason Paret (pronounced “pair - A”) and his wife Aimee, an elementary school teacher have two children, a son in high school and a daughter in 3rd grade.

AMDC Board Chairman Michael Ponce commented "I am very excited to have Jason Paret join our Medical Center family and look forward to working with him in making the Medical Center a place that all feel welcome in getting the best of medical care."

Jason Paret is expected to be on the job by January 4, 2016. Island life is not new to the Paret family having lived on two islands (in Alaska and Hawaii).  In Jason Paret's successful eighteen years as a healthcare executive he's achieved significant financial improvements for his organizations. He also brings with him eminent facility construction experience with two different projects, one in the amount of $20 million and another in the $50 million range.  Aimee Paret had the opportunity to talk with Avalon School principal Angie Gonzalez regarding the educational opportunities as well as employment prospects that may be available when visiting earlier this month. They look forward to settling in and living in Avalon full time.

Jason Paret’s resume also includes work as CEO at a small hospital in a rural area of Virginia and prior to that as Chief Financial Officer at hospitals in Hawaii and Alaska.

A comprehensive process to acquire a permanent CEO to replace interim administrator Bryan Ballard began in late summer.  The AMDC Board, the hospital’s governing body relied on the services of a preeminent executive search firm specializing in health care organizations and facilities.  More than a dozen candidates were available for consideration.  Video conference interviews reduced the prospects to four top contenders and two were invited to come to the island for an in-depth interview and tour. AMDC Board member Judy Grear complimented "the diligent work of the Board members and search committee in bringing such an excellent candidate like Jason Paret to the island."

Jason Paret was unanimously selected by the AMDC Board and has accepted the offer to serve as CEO for the hospital. Catrina Awalt, AMDC Board Treasurer was quoted, "having lived here for so long . . . I have a feeling about new people. I think Jason Paret and his family will be a wonderful addition to our community."

Jason Paret reflected on how he might address some of the challenges CIMC faces. "Building relationships within the community and ensuring excellent medical care for patients are top priorities. I also look forward to working together with a committed staff to enhance customer service and increase patient satisfaction."

As 2016 arrives, CIMC is poised for new beginnings with CEO Jason Paret's leadership in developing new ways to better serve the community and it's island visitors.

Catalina Island Medical Center's mission remains  to provide quality healthcare to each individual and improve the overall health of our community.
