Avalon Prime-Timers On The Move Again

In an effort to provide more activities and services for the senior population in Avalon, the City of Avalon hosted a Catalina tile making and lunch program on Wednesday, February 22nd.  This group affectionately known as the "Avalon Prime-Timers", for a nominal program fee,  were treated to a lunch provided by Katie's Kitchen and tile making with Robin Cassidy the owner of Silver Canyon Pottery.

After a wonderful lunch, Robin Cassidy shared some of the history of tile making on the island before providing individuals the opportunity to make 1 or 2 tiles to take home. The Prime-Timers rolled up their sleeves and got a little messy rolling out and pounding the clay into the beautiful molds Silver Canyon Pottery provides.  Fun was had by all and the group cannot wait to see the outcome of their handcrafted tiles once they fired and returned.

A special thank you goes out to Katie's Kitchen, Robin Cassidy, the City of Avalon and the Los Angeles County for providing funding for a Social Services Grant to make this program possible.  For additional Avalon Prime-Timers' programs, be on the lookout this spring for the City of Avalon's Recreation Guide for upcoming programs.
