Avalon Harbor Activity Report - January 2016

2016-02-13
City of Avalon

The beginning of 2016 has been fairly quiet. A local contractor, Jordahl Construction, demolished the fuel dock building, which also included the Casino Dock Café, during the third week of January.

On the 21st, Associated Pacific came in with a barge and crane to begin demolition of the dock and pilings.  Associated will also be building the new fuel dock.  A temporary marine fueling station has been set up at the Rescue Dock.  The new fuel dock is planned to be completed in the Spring.

While there were less weather warnings in January than December (11 vs 17), six boats were lost or destroyed; five sail boats and one power boat.  All six boats were outside the City limits on anchor.

The last day of the month saw gale force winds.  The winds caused a parked (unoccupied) golf cart to roll over at the Mole and one of the large light standards at the Mole to topple.

The cruise ship, Carnival Inspiration, was in dry dock two of its normally scheduled visits and 3 cruise ship visits were canceled due to weather.

The rest of days in January were beautiful…picture perfect!
