On the heels of the highly successful Catalina Island Efficient Lighting Expo held last month, Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced a Holiday Light Exchange that will take place on Sunday, November 22 and Monday, November 23 at Avalon City Hall.  Held in conjunction with the Catalina Sustainability Action Group (Catalina SAG), the Holiday Light Exchange allows SCE customers to bring in old strands of incandescent holiday lights (working, or not working) and exchange them for new LED multi-color holiday light strands.  Up to five strands may be exchanged per household, with strands accepted on a one-for-one basis.

LED holiday lights last up to 100 times longer than incandescent holiday lights, and can save as much as 80% on energy operating costs.  In addition, LED holiday lights have a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours - the equivalent of 100 holiday seasons at 200 hours of use per season!

"We're very excited to be working with Catalina SAG once again to bring greater energy efficiency to the Island", said Ben Harvey, SCE's Region Manager for Local Public Affairs.  "Every energy efficiency effort counts towards reducing the demand for electricity on Catalina, which is in everyone's best interest.  Plus, this event represents a great value for SCE's Catalina Island customers.  The new LED holiday lights retail for at least $12.00 per strand.  Basically, each island household can walk away from this event with $60 worth of new energy efficient holiday lighting."

The event is scheduled to take place at Avalon City Hall from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 22 and Monday, November 23.  Samples of the LED holiday lights will be on display at the Union Bank lobby on Front Street beginning Friday, November 20.  For additional information, please visit http://www.scelampexchange.com/ or call 800.865.6483.
