Catalina Island 48th Annual Junior Golf Tournament
Junior Golf Tournament
The Catalina Island Men’s Golf Club sponsored the 48th annual Catalina Island Junior Golf Tournament. Since 1967, the Avalon Men's Golf Club sponsors the tournament. Junior golfers who played in the tournament and went on to greater fame include Craig Stadler, Corey Pavin, and Tiger Woods, who first played here at age 4 and then again at age 14. The Bobby Jones Invitational Tournament called Catalina home from 1931-1955.
Several local students placed well in the 48th annual tournament. Ryan Sewell of Catalina and Carlsbad was tournament champion this year, posting an impressive score for 36 holes. His Grandfather, John Marin, lived on the Island and was the one who introduced Ryan to golf.
