The Rotary Club of Avalon recently hosted its Annual Welcome Back Teachers and Staff Party at the Catalina Canyon Resort and Spa. Food was prepared by Chef Greg of Seaport Bistro.

Nearly ninety Rotarians and Avalon School Staff attended this annual event, which brings the two groups together to meet and mingle and discuss the importance of our island youth and how we can work together to improve their success. Seven new teachers and the new Principal, Chris Lounsbery, were introduced and welcomed by an overflow crowd.

Rotary President Christy Lins welcomed attendees and related many of Rotary’s goals that assist schools through Scholarships, Literacy, Leadership and Service programs.

Also in attendance was former principal John Meyer, now with the Long Beach Unified Board of Education and Doug Otto of Long Beach City College, both of whom spoke about their goals to assist Avalon School and with regard to reviving adult education programs for the island.

Avalon Rotary actively contributes to the betterment of our Island community by donating to local community charities. Made up of a vibrant group of community leaders and business people united in their belief that working together, they can make the world a better place, the club meets on Wednesdays, at noon, at the Catalina Canyon Resort . Visiting Rotarians are always welcome.
