Oktoberfest at Catalina Island Museum

2017-10-05
Catalina Island Museum

No need to travel to Germany, the Catalina Island Museum is offering a bit of Bavarian culture in the heart of Avalon. This family friendly event features an authentic Bavarian polka rock band, singing of the schnitzelbank, bratwurst, and - for the adults - German beer and microbrews. In the true spirit of Oktoberfest, guests are encouraged to don their best dirndls and lederhosen.

Building upon the success of the museum's first Oktoberfest, First Fridays at the Museum attendees will enjoy gourmet bratwurst provided by Wurstküche of Los Angeles, while listening to live alpine music and yodeling by Hammerstein - often referred to as the best polka band ever! And, continuing a tradition started last year, attendees will also join in the singing of the German schnitzelbank and then Catalina Island's own schnitzelbank!!

Hammerstein Musik Bavaria is a 4-piece global get-down machine performing traditional polka, tango, operetta, and the occasional well-placed classic rock song. This super fun group is sure to get the audience into the spirit of Oktoberfest!

Once a month the museum offers evening hours for residents and visitors to enjoy its galleries, digital theater, outdoor plazas and Museum Store. First Fridays at the Museum takes place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, October 6th. The evening is also a great opportunity to view the Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum exhibition when it is dramatically illuminated.
