Kids Fishing Derby Largest Participation of 2016

August 3rd saw the largest participation at the Kids Fishing Derby for 2016. Between the two 2 age groups, 10 and under and 11 and over, 48 kids participanted from California, Arizona, Iowa, Indiana, and Montana.

A total of 274 fish were caught. With the highest number coming from Morgan McKinney from Arizona with 32.

There are 2 age groups, 10 and under and 11 and over. With categories of most fish caught, biggest fish, most unusual fish overall most fish caught.

Biggest Fish 10 and under: 1st place Ethan Bray, Avalon 15”, 2nd place Jeremiah Hunter, Riverside 13”, 3rd place Ashton Bray, Avalon 12 1/2”.

Biggest Fish 11 and over: 1st place Wes Yarbrough, Modesto 15”, 2nd place Jacob Yarbrough, Modesto 14 1/4”, 3rd place Dylan Park, Simi Valley 11 3/4”.

Most Fish Caught 10 and under: 1st place Owen Yarbrough, Modesto 18, 2nd place William Lofton, Pasedena 10, 3rd place Slayter Bray, Avalon 9.

Most Fish Caught 11 and over: 1st place Morgan McKinney, Arizona 32, 2nd place Jacob Yarbrough, Modesto 20, 3rd place Lucas Coulter, Montana 18.

Most Fish Cuaght Overall went to Morgan McKinney of Arizona with a total of 32.

The tradition of learning to fish off the pier every summer is a special moment for family members to catch summer memories on Catalina. Every Wednesday in the Summer from 7 am to 9 am the Catalina Fishing Derby takes place at the end of the Green Pier.
