WIES Catalina Conservation Divers

WIES Catalina Conservation Divers

Since 1992, the WIES Catalina Conservation Divers (formerly the Catalina Conservancy Divers) have been collecting underwater biological and environmental data from coastal ocean sites around Catalina Island, Califorina. In cooperation with the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, the CCD team conducts quarterly surveys of marine species and benthic water temperatures. This citizen science effort has built a valuable time-series dataset that provides insight into environmental and biological patterns along Catalina's coastline. Data from the program helps inform our understanding of the island's marine protected areas (MPAs), areas of biological significance, and important sites for marine recreation, research and education.
