The exhibition, Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum, will open on March 26, 2017 and run through December 11, 2017. Chihuly, an American sculptor, has mastered the alluring, translucent and transparent qualities of ice, water, glass and neon, to create works of art that transform the viewer experience.  He is globally renowned for his ambitious site-specific architectural installations in public spaces, and in exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide.

7:15 a.m. to Noon - Volunteer at the James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery in Middle Ranch and enjoy a beautiful morning drive through the interior of Catalina. While at the nursery you will perform a variety of essential horticultural tasks, all while learning about Catalina’s unique environment and the native plant species found here. 48 hours advance notice required - leave Avalon at 7:15am and return by noon. Thursday evenings through August 31st, the museum will stay open till 9:00 pm for Chihuly at Sunset. Enjoy late night access to Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum when the artwork is dramatically illuminated. Beginning at 6:00 pm a bar by Coyote Joe's will be located in the open-air plaza on the museum's second level. Regular admission fees apply.

Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. Meet at the Catalina Island Conservancy House, 125 Clarissa, at 9am, return at 1pm. In the film a swimsuit fashion designer is determined to protect her scatterbrained sister from a South American heart-breaker, but a case of mistaken identity complicates matters. It also features the Academy Award winning song "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

The annual Catalina Ski Race is the premiere water ski race in the world, but the it is more than just a race. With its rich 69 year history, quality of competition, and challenge of the open ocean, the Catalina Ski Race has earned its place on the world stage. The 62 mile-long race to Avalon and back makes it only turn just offshore of Descanso Beach and Hamilton Cove. Water skiers from around the globe come to participate. This race has notoriety because of the number of participants, and because it is the only open-ocean ski race regularly scheduled anywhere in the world. It is an especially unique challenge to compete across 62 miles of ocean. It is highly coveted and followed around the ski racing world.

In The Life Aquatic, Bill Murray stars as eccentric oceanographer Steve Zissou who is on a mission to exact revenge on the mythical 'jaguar' shark that ate his partner Esteban. Zissou's character is both a parody and homage to French diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau, who also has a connection to Catalina Island.

58th Annual Catalina Channel Crossing US Outrigger Championships. Come out and see the women finish the longest Polynesian canoe race in the continental U.S., 26 miles from Newport Beach to Avalon, on Saturday, at Casino Point. Then enjoy the after race Hawaiian festivities at the center of town; including music and beer garden. On Sunday watch the men start their race back to Newport Beach from Lovers Cove. Proceeds of the event go to support local charities. Southern California Outrigger Racing Association.

Pick up your Shop Catalina Treasure Card and month-long Discount Card, then hit the town and shop til you drop. Have your picture taken with Santa when you bring two canned goods to the food drive at El Galleon from 6pm-8:30pm.
