While at the nursery you will perform a variety of essential horticultural tasks, all while learning about Catalina’s unique environment and the native plant species found here. 48 hours advance notice required - leave Avalon at 7:15am and return by noon. The exhibition, Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum, will open on March 26, 2017 and run through December 11, 2017. Chihuly, an American sculptor, has mastered the alluring, translucent and transparent qualities of ice, water, glass and neon, to create works of art that transform the viewer experience.  He is globally renowned for his ambitious site-specific architectural installations in public spaces, and in exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide.

4-8 PM Halloween in the Garden - The Garibaldi Bus, donated by the City of Avalon, will shuttle residents and visitors between the Garden and Tour Plaza, People's Park and Bird Park. It will operate from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For the first 1,000 Island residents, the Halloween in the Garden event will be free. After the first 1,000 guests, admission for any additional guests will be $3 for children 5 to 12 years of age, $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and veterans (ID required). Admission for all children under the age of 5 and active-duty military and their families will be free.

The Catalina Island Triathlon & Duathlon attracts athletes who are looking to compete in that last race before the winter season break. This is a unique and beautiful setting that will challenge the beginner and thrill the veteran.

Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. Meet at the Catalina Island Conservancy House, 125 Clarissa, at 9am, return at 1pm. 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - A one-night shopping extravaganza with holiday discounts of 10-25%, strolling Victorina costumed Holiday Carolers and prize drawings! Shop Catalina Night kicks off at Wrigley Stage at 5pm with a holiday tree lighting ceremony and arrival of Santa and his “helpers” on a City of Avalon Fire Truck. Pick up your Shop Catalina Treasure Card and month-long Discount Card, then hit the town and shop til you drop. Have your picture taken with Santa when you bring two canned goods to the food drive at El Galleon from 6pm-8:30pm.
