Southern California divers have made the Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup one of their premier social events of the year. Divers retrieve trash and lost items from Avalon Harbor, and revel in the warm friendly atmosphere of Catalina Island. Last year, approximately 343 participants recovered 4,980 pounds of trash. Proceeds from the event will benefit USC’s Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and Wrigley Institute Scientific Diving Program.save to planner

The annual Catalina Ski Race is the premiere water ski race in the world, but the it is more than just a race. With its rich 69 year history, quality of competition, and challenge of the open ocean, the Catalina Ski Race has earned its place on the world stage. The 62 mile-long race to Avalon and back makes it only turn just offshore of Descanso Beach and Hamilton Cove. Water skiers from around the globe come to participate. This race has notoriety because of the number of participants, and because it is the only open-ocean ski race regularly scheduled anywhere in the world. 58th Annual Catalina Channel Crossing US Outrigger Championships. Come out and see the women finish the longest Polynesian canoe race in the continental U.S., 26 miles from Newport Beach to Avalon, on Saturday, at Casino Point.
