Avalon Harbor Activity Report - November 2016

2016-12-09
City of Avalon

Finally! Some rain! We received a total of 1.2 inches over four rain days.

The Annual Catalina Island Triathlon was held on November 5th and the Eco Marathon was held on November 19th.  The latter also included a Half Marathon, 10k and kids run.  Both of these events draw boaters, as well as hotel guests.  The weather was fairly cool for both, with temperatures in the mid-60s.

Southern California experienced a Super Moon on the 14th and 15th with a high tide of 7.1 and a low tide of -1.2.

Thanksgiving weekend was fairly quiet with seasonable weather and a Small Craft Advisory on Saturday, the 26th.

The last week of the month saw some pretty high winds, with a Gale Warning on the 27th   The Harbor office saw sustained winds of about 27 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.  Thank you to all the boaters that heeded the Harbor Patrol’s advice, prior to the predicted winds, to go to the mainland or Catalina Harbor.  The Harbor Patrol removed all the floats from the pier to avoid damage.
