AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Help preserve Catalina's unique history while enjoying the best in Island entertainment. Watch the 4th Annual Catalina Island Museum Telethon on Monday, March 21, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Channel 3.

The Telethon is a showcase for the best of Avalon's local talent, and features performances by Hot off the Range, Ballet Folklorico Quetzal, Kids at Play, and the Avalon School Advanced Band.  Special segments allow you to tour the Museum's new Research Center and the Inn on Mt Ada, learn more about Plein Air Painting and Catalina's wildlife, see early color footage of the town, and hear incredible stories of Island life from some colorful "Oldtimers."

Frank SaldaƱa will kick off the telecast with a heartfelt rendition of Avalon, and Wayne Griffin and Oley Olson will act as emcees.  Live guests scheduled to appear include the Mayor of Avalon, Ralph Morrow, the director of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, Marifrances Trivelli, and more.   Even Elvis will be on hand for the fun.

Proceeds from the telethon go to support the Catalina Island Museum's collections, programs and exhibits.  Your donations will help to preserve and share our Island Heritage.  Phone lines will be open throughout the 3 hour broadcast, and special challenges will be announced throughout the evening.  The Society for the Advancement of Plein Air Painting has also donated some special thank you gifts for donors pledging at specific levels; and the Museum will offer prizes to callers able to answer Catalina-related trivia questions.  The Telethon is sure to be an evening filled with fun, family entertainment that you won't soon forget, so be sure to tune in to Channel 3, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. on March 21.

Original Jack's Country Kitchen/Avalon Bake Shop
For a good meal in Avalon head to Avalon's newest diner Original Jack's Country Kitchen. It serves the heartiest, "like mom used to make" food and the decor is bright and nostalgic. OJ's is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. for breakfast (served until 2pm daily), lunch & dinner. It proudly features fresh eggs from cage-free hens, Jidori free-range chicken, Kobi beef and all natural Niman Ranch beef and pork. Another delightful feature is the fresh baked bolillos, croissants, cakes and pies made daily at its adjoining bakery. And what would a diner be without malts, shakes, hot fudge sundaes and banana splits?
