AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Catalina Express will begin daily boat service from the Catalina Express Port at the Queen Mary on Friday, February 4, 2005 as a result of heavy storm silting having blocked passage of Catalina Express vessels into the terminal at Catalina Landing. The Catalina Express is operating the Long Beach schedule from its port in San Pedro. Catalina Express will open their Long Beach Port at the Queen Mary on February 4, 2005 with the regular published Catalina Landing Long Beach schedule. On February 4th, San Pedro will resume its normal San Pedro posted schedule of departures.

The US Army Corps of Engineers conducted a complete survey of depth soundings in the surrounding waterway at the entrance to the Landing Terminal. The Corps' report indicates that this important access route has less than 3 feet of water in some areas and will require dredging to clear. Catalina Express continues to work closely with the City of Long Beach and the US Army Corps of Engineers to resolve the problem. A dredging schedule has yet to be established. Greg Bombard, President of Catalina Express states:
"Proper permits and funding for this project are issues which need to be resolved. Because there is no estimate on the amount of time this will take, we are moving forward to reopen our Port at the Queen Mary where, according to the survey, the access is clear. We know that boat service from Long Beach is especially important to our island commuters, to travelers from Long Beach, the surrounding area and Orange County."
Parking is $10.00 per day at the Queen Mary location and Catalina Express is contacting parking operations at the Queen Mary, regarding temporary monthly parking. The company is also working to provide transport between the Landing and the Queen Mary locations.

Catalina Express regrets any inconvenience to passengers and requests that travelers contact Catalina Express to reschedule trips and to obtain the latest information.

Catalina Express will continue to update passengers as information becomes available.
