AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - We start with an apology for a mistake in the Top Batter announcement last week for the Co-Ed Softball season. An error overlooked Jimmy Felix III's batting average of .826. We apologize to both Jimmy and Isaac for the mistake made in the article last week, and congratulate Jimmy for winning top batter honors.
In the first game of the do or die tournament, League Champions The Locker Room faced off against Pebbly Beach Building Supply. The Locker Room didn't allow Pebbly Beach Building Supply to even get into the game. Offense was the name of the game for the Locker Room, and they racked up 28 runs before time expired. Pebbly Beach Building Supply battled, but could only come up with 6 runs. A highlight for Pebbly Beach Building Supply was Justin Hernandez' inside the park home run.
For Pebbly Beach Building Supply, Justin Hernandez collected three hits. Carlos Hernandez, Sparrow Felix and Aurora Felix had two hits, while Phil Mc Grath and Chelsea Mc Cormick contributed one hit each. For The Locker Room, Manuel Rodriguez was a perfect four for four. Also collected four hits were Larry Hernandez, Jorge Hernandez, Tracy Larsen and Mary Amoroso. Frank Rojo and Pin Rodriguez collected three hits, while Gilberto Gamboa and Mindy Malan had two hits. Tino Rodriguez and Jon Council had one hit and two walks each.
The second game of the day wasn't much closer in score. Scott's Plumbing came out swinging in the first with four runs crossing the plate. Hotel Metropole answered with one run in the first, and kept pace in the fourth, when both teams scored four. For Hotel Metropole, Isaac Felix turned the rare triple play with the line drive catch at shortstop, then he stepped on second to get that runner, and threw to first base to record the third out! Scott's continued to add to their lead with two runs in the fifth, then put the game out of reach with thirteen runs in the sixth. With time expired, Hotel Metropole scored two runs to end the game with the final score Hotel Metropole 7, Scott's Plumbing 23.
For Hotel Metropole, Isaac Felix was a perfect three for three, and Jesse Gallegos and Josh Flynn were a perfect two for two. Chuy Sillas, Mario Chavez, Steve Hoefs, Gregg Miller and Yolanda Perez all collected one hit. For Scott's Plumbing, Doug Jann was on fire, going five for five. Cindy Morris was three for three, while Betty Tejeda was two for two with a walk. Richard Ferrari had four hits, while Scott Nelson collected two hits. Jose Cuevas, Sean Amoroso, Hedy Alvarado, Julie Luchau and Chela Hernandez all contributed with one hit.
The final game of the Co-Ed season is this Thursday, when the Tournament Champion will be decided. Game time is 6:00 pm between The Locker Room and Scott's Plumbing.
