It's almost time for the 2008 Museum Telethon featuring great live entertainment and fascinating insights into Catalina's remarkable heritage. The event has quickly become the most successful and important fundraiser for the Catalina Island Museum and contributes significantly to the nonprofit's efforts to collect, preserve and share Catalina history. This year the Telethon is going worldwide! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 11, 7-10 p.m. PST. Anyone can log on to www.eCatalina.com and watch the Telethon live online from anywhere in the world or if you're on the island, watch on Catalina Cable TV's Channel 3.
This year the Museum will be highlighting the history of the 1950s Grand Prix Motorcycle Races and feature never-before-seen views of the mechanics of the Casino Theatre's Page Organ. Rock legend Spencer Davis will be joined by blues musician Roger Connelly in a short jam session and Avalon's favorite bluegrass band Black Jack will perform live. Avalon's youth will provide entertainment, too! Taking the stage will be students from the Avalon High School band and the drama troupe, Kids at Play. You won't want to miss a peak at Catalina's fabulous underwater world or the behind-the-scenes of a new television production called "twentysixmiles," featuring TV star John Schneider.
This year promises to be the best Museum Telethon yet! The Museum's goal is to raise $100,000 of much needed funds for its programs to preserve and share Catalina history. One donor has already pledged $20,000 as a challenge match to other donors, meaning your $50 donation nets the museum $100! Catalina Island Museum
