2009 Avalon Community Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Article dated: Wednesday, April 15, 2009
The Harmonious Bicultural Community Group invites you to the 2009 Cinco de Mayo Celebration! Our mission is to improve the quality of life in Avalon for all of its residents by increasing cross-cultural community building and the celebration of Avalon's cultural diversity. The primary beneficiary of this community celebration is the Avalon Hospital Foundation. Our donations will help computerize the Hospital and create an electronic medical record database.
With the support from local restaurants, on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, The Cinco de Mayo Celebration will host the "Best Taco and Best Salsa in Town" contests. For just $2 a taco you will be the judge and cast your vote to select the winners. Some of the fun activities for the whole family will also include a bouncy house for the kids, live music by Rebeldia Nortena, and performances from professional and local dancers.
Tickets are on sale now at Island Breeze and the Chamber of Commerce. $10/ Adult tickets puts you in the drawing for a Big Screen TV and $3/ Child tickets gives kids the chance to win a brand new bike!
We will also be honoring Avalon's 1st "Grandmother of the Year". She will be recognized at the Cinco de Mayo Celebration and we are currently accepting nominations. Please submit a statement to P.O.Box 1341 by April 30th saying why your grandmother should be the "Abuelita of the Year".
We thank all the local donors, restaurants, volunteers, and entertainers who are making this wonderful event possible. We also thank you in advance for supporting us with your presence. You are all a true blessing and without you this would not be possible.
Your voice and opinion matters to us and we invite you to join us in making our vision a reality. Please join us at our meetings every Wednesday at the Country Club. Together we can build a strong and united bicultural community that can achieve anything. We hope you enjoy the festivities and Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
Sincerely, The Harmonious Bicultural Community Group
